Gardner Village, Oh, and Doctors Too

I had a teacher named Mr. Hrynyshyn (her-nah-shin) in seventh grade and he told ALL of his students that come the first day of the month, if you said "Rabbit, Rabbit" as your FIRST spoken word then you would then have a good month. Random? Yes, but I have never forgotten that! I laugh just thinking about it.

So, October 1st was "Rabbit, Rabbit" day. It's supposed to be a good day, right? Well, it started pretty good. I got ready quickly, got Mercydez fed and all ready for her swallow study up at Primary Children's Hospital. Oh, I was doin' good. I picked up my mom and was doing pretty good on time. But, then I quickly ran into Wal-Mart. We were running a bit late after that, but we weren't late (YET) to the appointment. I called on our way up and explained that we would be just a bit late. I was reassured to come up regardless of being late and that we would be fit in. So, we get there and I pull out my wallet to pay the co-pay and realize I LEFT MY CASH AT WALMART! Urg! No worries though. We can be billed later. So, we go to Radiology. I go to check in. Yes, we're late, but remember, I was told to come REGARDLESS. I state we're here for Mercydez and I'm immediately told that we need to reschedule. I was so mad. I was a little sharp with the receptionist. I feel bad, but not really. I told her "I spoke with you not long ago and you told me to come up regardless." To which she said, "Oh. So, when would you like to reschedule?" Yeah, thanks for the sympathy.

The good news is that because it was rescheduled I was able to visit some (I wish I could have visited more) of our friends from the heart group we belong to. It was very emotional for me. My poor mom had to deal with me. Sorry Mom.

So, to make a hard and somewhat irritating day better, my mom, Mercydez and I went to Gardner Village! I have never been there and I absolutely LOVED it! I am DYING to go back! It is decorated soooo cute right now! I think it's now one of my most favorite places! I would love to work there! They have a dinner-play running until the end of the month that looks so cute! I'm begging Nic to take me. Of course, he has to consult his BYU Football schedule first. So, hopefully we'll be going sometime soon! I had so much fun! My mom and I had lunch, checked out some stores, tried and purchased some DELICIOUS fudge, etc. etc. etc. It was a great few hours. I love my mom. She is amazing. She is definitely a "Mother Who Knows".

Today we had an appointment with an Audiologist at UVRMC. It went really well. The doctor feels like Mercydez CAN hear but because of the fluid in her ears (she has a significant amount due to her cleft) it's like she's wearing really good ear plugs. So, we're going to have to make a decision about tubes. For some, that's a no-brainer. But, for us it's scary. They would have to sedate her for that... So, we'll see. But, we're still gonna keep pursuing Sign Language. I don't mind learning anyway.

So, happy October to all! Hope your "Rabbit, Rabbit" day was fabulous. Hope you're October is fabulous. Happy Halloween!

Being told to reschedule after you'd called ahead would make me so mad! After all, its not like its a quick jaunt around the corner for you, and with a child on oxygen and other needs, ugh! I'm glad that you were able to see an audiologist at UVRMC instead of PCMC. Having Mercydez sedated again would make me hesitant too; I've noticed a significant improvement in Nathan after they placed them. Ear tubes aren't perfect though. Nathan's already had one that is going bad and not doing its job properly. Dr. Muntz, an ENT at PCMC, told me that kids with clefts also tend to have tiny ear canals and the tubes they have to place have a life of 6 months or less. He also told me that it was his experience that cleft kids also need them placed between 2 -6 times before they aren't needed anymore. Its not just a one shot deal. I would definately pursue the sign language no matter what.

Isn't Gardner Village great! Its too funny that the BYU schedule has to be consulted first:).

Good luck with everything!

That stinks that you had to reschedule. I'd be a little fiesty being in that situation too. I have some other friends that have been to Gardner Village also. What is it?? Maybe on a trip down to my Mom's I'll have to make a stop there. That's such great news that the Dr. thinks Mercy can hear!!! Yay!
Love the pictures!!! You always have her looking so stinkin ADORABLE!!!
On another note....we are pretty sure an offer was put on the OTHER house...grrr...I knew I was making a fool of myself by blogging about it. Oh well. I suppose someone else will come along...

I'm hoping you get the package tomorrow!!! Check your mother-in-laws home :)

Oh Ashley what a nightmare! I remember how frazzled we were every time we had to leave our house with Corbin. Let alone if we got somewhere only to have our appointment canceled! What a mess! Can I just tell you how amazing you and your mom are? It just warms my heart every time I see pictures of you guys out and about. I think it is so wonderful you are out showing off your little girl. She is too perfect to be kept under wraps! It looks like we may be able to come up for a visit soon. We look so forward to seeing you and your precious little girl! Love, Stacy, Chance, and Budda Boy!
PS fantastic news about the ears. But what bitter sweet news, please know our hearts and prayers are with your family as you struggle with your difficult decisions. xoxoxo
